My teaching philosophy is very simple. Every child is unique. I
believe every student is capable of learning and it is the educator’s
responsibility to find a way to motivate and teach each student.
My relationship with my students has three elements. They are
love, support, and empathy. My students tell me I am the best
teacher ever, which tells me I'm doing something right.
The learning environment in my classroom makes my students feel
safe. Each student knows they are safe to share ideas, feelings,
and mistakes without ridicule or reprimand. Everyone’s opinion is
important! At the beginning of the school year the students and I
write the rules for the classroom and consequences for breaking
those rules.
When a child lags behind academically, I suggest after school
tutoring, private tutoring, and various websites I have found that
help students with basic skills. Behavior issues are dealt with by
using different forms of behavior modification to fit the situation.
When a child is excelling in an academic area, I give authentic
praise. I also keep the student engaged by giving work that is
challenging and interesting.
