If I told you someone had 4 New York Times Bestsellers, and over 8 million radio
listeners per week, you would think this person would be  a “near household name”.  But
thanks to a news media with bias agendas, this person is a virtual unknown compared to
those with a fraction of his accomplishments who tow the “politically correct line“ and
receive unlimited publicity.  I myself happened to find out about this talented man by
sheer luck.
In August 2004 I was driving westbound  on  Interstate 10, somewhere between
Las Cruces, New Mexico and  Tucson, Arizona. This is a beautiful stretch of scenic
highway that most people would describe as “miles and miles of
nothing but miles and miles“. In this area of the country it is difficult to pick up anything
but static on the radio.  I was flicking through the AM radio dial when I barely picked up a
“talk station” that had a man with a deep Brooklyn accent welcoming listeners to “The
Savage Nation”. From that day forward I have been an avid listener and fan of the
mystery man named  Michael Savage.

Michael Savage is considered, by many, to be a controversial conservative talk show
radio host, author, and political commentator. His nationally syndicated radio show
reaches over 8 million listeners on 377 stations throughout the United States, ranking
him 3rd in nationwide audience behind Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Savage
attributes his success to his listeners who he considers “literate callers with intelligence,
wit, and energy”. He says that those who listen to him will hear a bit of “Plato, Henry
Miller, Jack Kerouac, Moses, Jesus, and Frankenstein”. He is a highly educated man;
holding Masters Degrees in medical botany and medical anthropology, and a PhD from
the University of California at Berkley. He has written a number of books on herbal
medicine and homeopathy over the past 25 years. He has written four New York Times
bestsellers relating to his political and social beliefs: The Savage Nation (2003), The
Enemy Within (2004), Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder (2006),and The Political Zoo
(2006). Michael Savage calls himself an “independent-minded individualist” and says he
fits no stereotype.  He believes there are three aspects that define a society: “borders,
language, and culture”. He believes the United States needs stronger immigration
controls to protect against rampant illegal aliens who he claims are undermining national
security and the economy. He considers himself a real conservative, who gives credit to
politicians who deserve it, and cuts to pieces those same politicians when they screw up.
He claims no political party affiliation.

Savage analyzes important domestic and international problem situations, and using
facts, logic, and common sense, will tell you who is pulling the wool over the American
peoples eyes. He has bashed President Bush’s running of the Iraq War calling it “one of
the biggest military blunders in history” , and accused Bush of being “more liberal than
Bill Clinton” on numerous issues.  Savage claims the two national political parties share
identical philosophies in that they have no real differences. He uses the terms
“Republicrat and Democan” to describe their party members. It is difficult for politically
aware citizens not to agree.

Savage pulls no punches when it comes to getting his points across.  Although at times
Savage’s demeanor is rough, gruff, and rude, his words of truth reveal the fact that this
country is rapidly losing battles on several fronts. He cuts through the politically correct
bullshit and brings to the surface the specific problems that confront Americans. He
believes affirmative action, gay marriage, uncontrolled illegal immigration, anti-religious
sentiment, and the unwillingness to use the military in the proper way, proves that
Americans are soft, impotent, and clueless. Savage asserts that American culture has
always centered around a strong family life and Judeo-Christian ethics. He believes the
failure to maintain these values will result in the ultimate disintegration of America. He
maintains that almost all politicians are “sell-outs” when it comes to maintaining and
enforcing acceptable behavior in American society. He is of the mindset that politicians
will throw a baby in the fire if it means getting a vote.

Savage regularly makes outrages assertions about issues he feels passionate about.
On March 28, 2006, he suggested his listening audience burn Mexican flags to counter
protests of pro-illegal-immigration groups that were burning American flags while
Mexican flags were waved.
To those who listen to Savage on a regular basis, he didn’t mean this literally.
This comment was his way of getting a point across quickly and firmly.

Because of his “no nonsense opinions” Savage is constantly under the microscope of
far left-wing radical groups, such as Media Matters for America, which dissects every
word he utters with the sole intention of discrediting him on “radical left-wing” websites.
Ironically, these propaganda groups have only increased Savage’s popularity over the
years he has been on the radio.

Despite his success in books and radio Michael Savage remains on the “unwritten
blacklist” of the American mainstream media.  He is never invited on television
programs.  His books are seldom, or never reviewed by the same newspapers that put
his books on their bestsellers lists. So what’s really going on here?
What’s going on is that these self proclaimed “media elites” are afraid Michael Savage
will reveal them for the phonies they are.  Today’s media has deteriorated from being
“news based” to “entertainment based”.  Television news has become a carefully
choreographed show made up of talking heads who are void of independent thought.
These talking heads from ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, PBS, etc., spend more time in the
make-up chair than in the real world.  Savage would cut these people to shreds in any
debate or discussion venue, and drastically reduce the phony credibility they have with
their television audience. Therefore, it makes sense for them to steer clear of Michael
Savage and anyone else who might challenge their concept of reality.

Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh rarely talks about other “conservative” talk show
hosts unless they have filled in for him in the past.  He has no reason to; Limbaugh has
the number one talk show in America thus giving him a pass.   Other talk show radio
personalities make a conscious effort to "not mention" Savage’s  name.   Number two
talk show radio host, Sean Hannity, might utter the name Michael Savage if one of his
call-in listeners brings up his name. He then quickly moves the conversation along.
Bill O’Reilly, who comes off as a “no nonsense, no spin guy” is genuinely afraid to
interview Michael Savage. O’Reilly, who holds the 4th spot behind Savage in radio
audience listeners, and who relishes interviewing controversial people, refuses to talk to
Savage. When confronted by his call-in listeners about why he won’t have Savage on
his show, O’Reilly gave the excuse that he doesn't interview “extremists”.  As with the
television “media elites”, O’Reilly doesn't want to wreck his “perceived credibility” with his
viewers and listeners.

In the old Soviet Union, unwanted dissidents were crushed by either having them
executed, or banished to Siberia. Text books were re-written to omit their names, and
"necessary photographs" were retouched ; all this with the intention of
“erasing the existence” of someone who didn't fit into the Soviet Society.
The American mainstream media has taken a few pages from the Soviet Union's
banishment book by pretending Michael Savage doesn't exist.
Unfortunately for the mainstream media, these tactics are backfiring. Michael Savage
continues to have a growing audience while most mainstream media outlets struggle to
keep viewers and listeners.

So what’s the bottom line?  The answer is very simple and very American.
